Metro-West Pitcher-Catcher Clinic is held Sundays from 7:00PM to 8:30 PM, 52 weeks per year, at the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. The clinic is free of charge, and is open to any player looking to improve their skills as a pitcher or catcher. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome. The following are examples of areas in which a pitcher or catcher might expect instruction at various stages of their development:
Pitchers:
Beginner - introduction to basic mechanics of both overhand and underhand throwing, to develop sound throwing mechanics.
Intermediate - instruction in the windmill delivery to develop a fluent, coordinated throwing motion. Introduction to change-up and drop.
Advanced - Increased focus on using lower body in pitching motion, on further development of additional pitches, and on the mental "game within a game" that a pitcher and catcher carry out as a team.
Catchers:
Beginner - focus on correct receiving position, on catching the ball, and on proper throwing mechanics.
Intermediate - Increased emphasis on throwing from the catcher's stance, and on techniques for tracking pop-ups and blocking pitches.
Advanced - Blocking and tagging runners, framing pitches, tracking down wild pitches and passed balls, and on the mental "game within a game" that a pitcher and catcher carry out as a team.
